Mathematics At Tarneit P-9 College

The overarching goal of teaching and learning of Mathematics at Tarneit P-9 College is to build a community of learners that will participate in a democratic society but also not be obstructed in pursuing future opportunities that require mathematic competency. We aim for our students to be able to use mathematics to solve the problems they’ll encounter in their daily and their future professional lives . We have a strong emphasis on empowering students with foundational number knowledge and skills that they can continue to draw on as life-long learners.

The Mathematics curriculum focuses on developing increasingly complex and refined mathematical understanding, fluency, reasoning, modelling and problem-solving. These capabilities enable students to respond to familiar and unfamiliar situations by employing mathematics to make informed decisions and solve problems efficiently.

Essential mathematical skills and knowledge in number and algebra, measurement and geometry, and statistics and probability are covered each year. Where possible, links are made between domains of mathematics and between disciplines like in Science or Humanities. Students engage in daily Mathematics lessons from Prep through to Year 9.
